Split: A spare leave in which the headpin is down and the remaining combination of pins have an intermediate pin down immediately ahead of or between them. (hole, railroad) Miss: A missed spare. (blow, error, open) Foul: Touching or going beyond the foul line at delivery. Foul line: The mark that determines the beginning of the lane, 60' this side of the head pin, where the gutters start.
